Or should it be “domestic god or goddess?” Regardless of your title, a domicile is your domain and even your sanctuary, so why shouldn’t you have a little extra help keeping it tidy and organized? That’s where super cool “smart” appliances come into the picture – alleviating your domestic workload and elevating you to trendsetter status.
At CES, this was one of the hottest topics and we took a peek so we could report back to you about all the coolest items. Let’s just say (*nerd alert*) we are all excited about the advancements in domestic technology.
Just to give you an idea of how cutting edge these new appliances are, Samsung has introduced the RF4289, a refrigerator that keeps, cools and even Tweets! Can you believe it!? Now who would want to know about the status of my deli meats?
Here are some other highlights of what we found to be some of the most interesting smart appliances unveiled at CES 2011:
iRobot Scooba 230 – Sure, floor cleaning robots aren’t new to the smart appliance market but the Scooba 230 is the most advanced floor cleaner yet. In addition to being super compact, Scooba 230 is also super thorough, making several passes over the floor space and eliminating 97% of household bacteria from the floor. This smart appliance will be available this spring, just in time for Spring cleaning. If this means no more mopping then sign us up!
ThinkEco Modlet – We all know that home electronics and appliances can be huge energy users, especially during the winter and holiday months, despite recent advancements in energy consumption. This is where the ThinkEco Modlet comes in handy. This practical and compact device simply connects into any outlet in your house to stop the power supply to your electronics and appliances when not in use. You can even set the Modlet to turn the power supply on and off on a regular schedule. Think of the savings! The ThinkEco Modlet will make its energy saving debut this spring.
LG THINQ Technology – This new technology is the most promising of the connected home revolution. Through the use of this system, a domestic superhero on the go can receive text message alerts about the appliances connected to THINQ. Through the use of Wi-Fi the appliances can alert their owners if they left the oven on, the freezer door open, if the washing machine was left off balance and even if the appliance is due for a repair. Our favorite part? These new kitchen appliances can even regularly download recipes online in order for us to spice up the dinner table. Take that Jetsons.
So there you go, a glimpse into the ways our roles as house manager may get easier in the future. I hope you’re excited about having more time to play, more fun gadgets and the energy savings these new appliances will give us… how savvy!
We would like to give one last thanks to everyone that supported us while we were at CES, we had a blast. Our “This is Awesome! @ CES” trivia contest was a huge success – congratulations to our $2,000 winner Irene Van! Don’t forget to check out our NEWs Crew videos asking consumers about their favorite electronics at the show.
